Check Out Social Networking Sites

I recently have looked into a few social networking websites that all offer different features for its users. I will start off talking about the least talked about which is Friendster, which is a generic version of the two other and more popular social networking websites Myspace and Facebook. Friendster offers everything a Web 2.0 social networking website should offer with apps also known as widgets such as blogs, photo albums, and forums and groups. It lets its users o customize their profile page with different looks with Friendster Skins and personalize them and even add music and videos to their profile page. The purpose of this social networking website is very similar to the other two, to keep in touch with your friends, coworkers and colleagues. These three websites make it easy to find the people you know and it is not a surprise when many of people you know are part of all these sites. Myspace is another free to use website which is aimed at a younger generation because it only requires for their users to be 14 years old where Friendster requires you to be at least 16 years old. The user interface noticeably different when compared to Friendster, and it is visible immediately how different they are. When one visits the homepage of Myspace, they are immediately shown different links to pop media, at the time I am writing this it is American Idol. Since Myspace's focus is on more towards a younger generation they also have many more users, more than over 60 million. Myspace offers about the same amount of stuff that Friendster offers but in a vast majority and at a higher rate. That may be a good thing but it could also lead to some problems such as invasion of privacy. When it comes to Facebook, it is known to be the most used social networking websites. The website has became so popular to that there was even a movie made about it recently called the "Social Network", and it tells how the website was originally created. The website is similar to Friendster and Mypsace in many ways where it helps its users connect to their friends and family and all acquaintances, it differs once again through user interface. Instead of pop culture references, it makes everything simple. Simplicity is the key with Facebook, for example doing the work for you  trying to find people you know, like mutual friends, old classmates and people on a emailing contact list. When searching, it presents results on the bottom as you type. Like mentioned before simplicity is key to connecting friends, users can stay in with each other by writing comments on walls, on pictures and even on status updates. Statuses was something brilliant introduced by Facebook which lets everyone know what their friends are up to and that helps them stay connected. Besides status updates, Facebook connects its users by other means such as social networking games and creating group pages. These three social networking sites let users put up personal information on their website to allow others to connect with them. One more interesting social networking website I came across is called Twitter, which is an idea that was evolved from Facebook's feature of a status update. It can be considered a micro blog where its users update their status with some kind of information or event of some sort. It is just quick update of your life instead of a long well thought out paragraph. This lets their users stay connected with people who they know on a personal level and even people who they want to on a personal level such as celebrities. Twitter actually has became so popular that many times, certain information and exclusive is only available through twitter, such as an invitation to an exclusive event or some kind of special offer. Overall it is still up to par with its competitive social networking websites. In conclusion all these website have something different to offer some more than others, but more is not necessarily better. Depending on the individual and what information they want to share, each website is uniquely design for them.
